Since 1987, Library Card Signup Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the American Library Association and libraries across the country unite in a national effort to ensure every child signs up for their own library card.

Here in Rowan County, we're entering patrons for a prize drawing when you sign up for a library card or ask us to verify or update your information in our records. You could win library swag, gift cards, or even family passes to the Cave Run Storytelling Festival!

But it doesn't stop there: Throughout the school year, public librarians and library staff will assist parents and caregivers with saving hundreds of dollars on educational resources and services for students. From free access to STEAM programs/activities, educational apps, in-person and virtual homework help, and technology workshops to the expertise of librarians, a library card is one of the most cost-effective back-to-school supplies available. Visit ALA's Library Value Calculator to total your savings!
