The bookmobile seeks to provide access to materials and services for patrons unable to easily visit the library, whether due to transportation or health issues. Bookmobile services are available free of charge to anyone in Rowan County, and you can access any item in the library’s collection through a bookmobile visit.
Books, audiobooks, and movies for all age groups are regularly carried on the bookmobile, along with magazines, comics, graphic novels/manga, large print books, board books, and more!
Eight routes reach every corner of Rowan County. Visits are every other week or every four (4) weeks, depending on patron preference. You can choose from items already on the bookmobile, request items to be brought, or place holds for materials ahead of time. Porch service is also available through library outreach for those unable or not wishing to use the bookmobile directly.
The bookmobile is perfect for parents with preschool children and students on summer break. It also serves daycare centers, nursing homes, group homes, and schools! Everyone is welcome, and a lift is available for patrons who use wheelchairs, walkers, and similar assistive devices.
No library card? No problem! Cards can be issued straight from the bookmobile with proper ID. Learn how to get a card here. Outreach staff are also happy to educate patrons on how to use ebooks, audiobooks, and borrowing apps on smartphones or other mobile devices, and can help those qualifying to access the Kentucky Talking Book Library.
To set up service, email bookmobile@rowancountylibrary.org or call (606) 776-2790. Parking and turnaround space for a 24-foot vehicle is necessary to receive visits.
