Need internet? Office stuff? Help with either? We've got your back!
We offer a variety of clerical services (all listed below), from free computer and internet usage to faxing, printing and copying, technology assistance, and more. We also have multiple notaries standing by to lend a hand when you need to sign your important documents!
For more information about any service, just click the appropriate button below. Still have questions? Feel free to ask any librarian!
We're proud to offer laptop computers for in-house use by adult cardholders (over 18 years of age). There is a two (2)-hour time limit, which can be extended if needed.
No library card? No problem! Just ask for a guest pass at our front circulation desk. Guest passes are good for one (1) business day, so they’ll work for you until we close that same evening.
We do require that you practice common courtesy when using library computers! You may find that some websites containing sensitive, graphic, or explicit material are blocked; please try to avoid such sites while using our equipment and network. Failure to do so may result in a loss of computer privileges, so browse respectfully.
Need WiFi access? Search for available networks on your device (or refresh your existing list) and choose “RCPL Free WiFi” to connect. You should be directed to a splash screen prompting you to accept our computer use policy. And that's it! You're online.
Regular browsing activities are permitted, but we can't endorse online piracy, and torrenting is strictly prohibited. Patrons who consistently use an enormous amount of bandwidth or who are found to be employing torrent clients and similar programs may find their devices rejected by our network.
If you need help, just ask any librarian!
We have WiFi hotspots available for checkout to adult patrons (over 18 years of age) with an account in good standing!
A hotspot is a mobile WiFi device that connects to a network just like a cell phone, and provides wireless internet access to devices nearby. You can use them for your smartphone, tablet, laptop, game console, and more! You’ll need to have an appropriate agreement on file to borrow a hotspot; agreement forms are available upon request at our front circulation desk.
Because hotspots are so popular and are always in demand, we can't keep these devices on the shelf for normal checkout through our Library of Things; you’ll have to make a reservation and be waitlisted. You'll get a notice when a hotspot is available, and then have three (3) days to pick up your device. We loan hotspots for 14 days, and patrons are responsible for lost or damaged devices and cases. Overdue devices are deactivated. Please make sure to return your hotspot on time at our front circulation desk, or through our materials drop in the rear drive-thru!
Disclaimer: Internet access provided through a WiFi hotspot is not filtered or monitored. Patrons are liable for their own activities while using a hotspot device, and parents or guardians are responsible for providing appropriate supervision of internet usage by children or others with whom they may share access to any hotspot device on loan to their account.
Printing is available from any library computer, and you can make photocopies at all of our patron office centers! Your first 10 pages are free for both services, with additional pages 10¢ each.
To print:
Use the normal print buttons or commands for your program, then select either the black-and-white or color printer when prompted. You’ll be asked to confirm the print, and then your job will be sent to our printing station!
To complete your print at the printing station, select “release a print job” on the computer there and enter your library card number when prompted (if you're using a guest pass, you'll enter your guest ID instead). Choose your job from the list, then put the appropriate amount into the coin and bill acceptor ($1USD bills and silver coins only). Change is provided through the coin and bill acceptor. As long as your total printing cost comes to at least $1USD, you can also pay with a debit or credit card at our front circulation desk.
Once you've paid, just click the “print” button in the top left-hand corner of the screen to release your print job. If you forget any of these steps, there's a helpful sign right at the printing station!
Copying:
Our office centers can enlarge, reduce, collate, and print double-sided! Load your documents face-up in the top tray or facedown on the glass under the lid, then use the touchscreen to pick your settings. Once you've decided how many copies you want, you'll be prompted to insert the appropriate amount into the coin and bill acceptor, after which your copies will be delivered in the output tray.
Just like with printing, as long as your total cost comes to at least $1USD, you can also pay for your copies at our front circulation desk using your debit or credit card.
If you want to print something from your own device, such as a personal laptop, tablet, or smartphone, we also offer mobile printing!*
*Sort of. It doesn't work very well, but we're replacing it with a better service very soon! Links and detailed instructions will be posted here once upgrades are complete.
You can send a fax from the office center beside our conference room, or scan documents directly to one (1) or more email addresses at any office center. Both are completely free! We also provide complimentary cover sheets at our front circulation desk upon request.
Need to receive a fax instead of sending one? Have incoming faxes sent to us at (606) 784-2130.
Note: Scanned items will be in non-editable PDF file format.
We're happy to provide notary public services completely free of charge! You can get something notarized anytime during our normal hours of operation, Monday through Saturday.
Please be sure to bring along the following:
- The documents you need notarized
- A government-issue photo ID (such as a driver’s license, passport, military ID, etc.)
- Your current full address of residence and proof of residence (if not present on ID; e.g. a piece of mail sent to you at that address)
These materials are required for all parties involved in the notarization!
You're welcome to meet with any notary at our front circulation desk or in a private room. If you haven't called ahead to make an appointment, there may be a brief waiting period while staff finish helping other patrons or while a suitable location is arranged, in the event that our study rooms and conference room are occupied at the time of your visit.
Important: Please note that, due to legal liability issues, the library unfortunately cannot offer notary services with regard to motorized vehicles of any kind, including (but not limited to) automobiles, ATVs, or boats.
Our technology staff are here to help! Stop by Monday through Friday from 10am to 3pm for questions or tech help.
Don't forget that you can also access our databases library for various resources to help you learn computer skills at home, completely free of charge!
Join us for Device Advice, our monthly open-forum technology class! Questions about personal computers, devices, and more are welcome, and all sessions are free and open to the public—no registration required, just show up. Times for some upcoming Device Advice classes are listed right here on this page!
Laptops are available for checkout, but we encourage you to bring your own computers, tablets, smartphones, and so on in order to get the best answers we can provide about your specific device.
