Program Description

Event Details

Our library history and genealogy programming promotes an awareness of and interest in local heritage. Cindy's presentations are different every month, covering a wide variety of topics, and we often welcome special guests! Intended for ages 18+.

Cholera raged through the U.S. several times during the 19th century, with high fatality rates. We welcome Kentucky Humanities speaker Terry Foody, author of The Pie Seller, the Drunk and the Lady, as she poignantly describes this civic devastation—and the crucial deeds of a freed Black woman, a homeless laborer, and the founder of the Orphan Asylum—during a summer with 500 deaths.
