October's title is The Reckoning by John Grisham: A Southern Gothic legal thriller that follows the journey of Pete Banning. A decorated World War II hero and pillar of the community, he shocked the town of Clanton, Mississippi when he rose early one October morning and committed a shocking crime. Most mystifying of all was that Pete's only words on the matter were, "I have nothing to say." Unafraid of death, he seemed willing to take his motives to the grave. The Reckoning follows the winding trail of this mystery from the Jim Crow South to the jungles of the Phillipines, an asylum filled with secrets, and the courtroom where Pete's attorney tries desperately to save him.
